RIP Johan Engelbeen AKA Kobold

After having recently tried to get in touch with long-time BrainJuice reader and contributor Kobold, we were told by his wife Izas that he passed away on June 27th 2002.

Needless to say, it was shocking news. He greatly contributed to the small community we have in our forums, helped sorting out stuff, and suggested new puzzles too, like The Devil's Muse, which the BBC enquired with us about.

Please take a minute to give your condolences to Izas and their two children in this forum thread. If you can't be bothered to register, then please leave a message on our guestbook. I will make sure Izas will get all your messages.

Johan you will be sorely missed

Server Downtime

Hello there. You may have noticed that BrainJuice disappeared for a couple of weeks or so. This was due to the server being hacked and defaced. The administrator of the box decided to take drastic action and reinstall the latest version of the OS, and put stricter security measures in place.

Once that was done, the new harddisk was sent to the co-location site to be installed by an engineer. Then there was the hard work of making sure everything was working, which took some time. I found that with the newer version of PHP that was installed on the new image, I had to make changes to all my PHP files.

So, sorry about that! We're back in action now, bringing you completely free and advert-less mental stimulation (hint)! Hurrah!

Five Years of BrainJuice!

Well, five years is pretty good, isn't it? Let's celebrate it with a few new puzzles submitted by some of our fine forum members: Switching Logic, A Special Old Guy, and A Farmer's Good Fortune.

Where Is Mickey?

Some of you may have been wondering where Mickey has been since his last update (21st January 2002, BrainJuice's 3rd birthday).

Well, one of the things he has been up to is some doing some fab photography. Have a look at his portfolio. Anyway, just like with puzzles, he's inspired me to join him. So here's my humble beginings of a portfolio.

Perhaps we'll see an update from him before the next birthday
